There’s a reason why your wedding day is called ‘the big day’, because it is one of the single biggest days of your life.
Feelings of excitement, joy and happiness can be mixed with a touch of fear and sadness. For many people anxiety levels reach a crescendo making you wonder what you signed up for!
The words ‘cold feet’ are mentioned often when it comes to weddings. Most likely that could be that cold feet are a symptom of anxiety. Blood is literally rushing from your feet to your heart. So this is natural, but not fun.
‘Wedding jitters’ is another term – this can be your body telling you to run, sick in your stomach or an overwhelming sense of dread. None of which you want on your wedding day.
But what steps can you take to overcome those wedding jitters and cold feet? Little Hunters Writing offers these tips to go someway to a more Zen like day of bliss:
- Chill out – easy to say, but prepare in advance of the big day to have some time just for you. Yes it will be hard with you being the centre of attention and all, but ten minutes of peaceful space to be still, quiet and just be you, can put you in the right frame of mind for the day ahead.
- Tea time – Sencha, Darjeeling, Matcha or even English Breakfast… whatever your cup of tea, your wedding day is the right time to have a cup or two of it. The simple act of pausing to enjoy a tea will help you re-centre and focus on what’s important.
- Eat and be merry – brides in particular are known for not eating on their wedding day – from having no time, no appetite or even last minute ‘dress fit fear’. This can be one of the worse things to do as hunger will heighten your emotions, reduce your energy levels and lead you to be ‘hangry’ (hungry-angry). So have your cake and eat it too!
- Walk it off – as soon as you wake up your wedding day, or as soon as you can, go for a run, walk, or some other vigorous exercise. This will get your heart rate up, endorphins released and help with your overall wellbeing and outlook on life (and marriage). After all, an early morning run might stop you from running the wrong way down the aisle!
- Don’t sweat the little things – there are so many moving pieces to the wedding day and so many people involved that the logistics of keeping it all in order can be enough to send you off the rails. So once your day arrives, try to take small hiccups and speed bumps in your stride, knowing these will be the things you will laugh at later and adds to the tapestry of your love story.
So breathe, focus, drink, eat and don’t become a stress mess. Maybe also entrust your wedding party or loved one to remind you of these tips – they don’t want to bear the brunt of you being hangry! Most of all, enjoy your day.
